Senbon Torii or Thousand Torii Gates Kyoto

On my list of things to see while in Kyoto was the Senbon Tori or the Thousand Torii Gates. My Geisha tour guide Nikki, suggested going at night, after 7pm for a less crowded experience. It wasn’t that busy at night, and even less actually do the trail. There were people at the entrance getting pictures of/with the Torii and shrine but once further in and on the trail I was alone most of the time. Going at night is the time to go if you want to enjoy yourself.

There is more than just the Torii gates, you start by going through the Great Torii, Mount Inari, Fushimi Inari Taisha Honden and can visit a number of other shrines before getting to the Senbon Torii.

The Senbon Torii is a trail loop up the side of the mountain and like everything in Japan & Kyoto, beautiful & amazing. It’s a few kilometers for the loop and really is an amazing hike. It’s lit at night and has a couple of amazing view points overlooking Kyoto. There are many shrines on the loop to stop at and some other interesting points.
